In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Nurses' Organisation members at St Columcille's Hospital accept proposals made at the Labour Relations Commission over on-call payments. The union had sought higher weekday and weekend rates and a payment per case per hour, saying the on-call service affected nurses’ personal and family lives. Management said recruitment and a new roster would eliminate on-call cover. The Court said the issue should be revisited if cover had not ended by 31 December 2001. The recommendation was dated 15 June 2001.
