In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that G & T Crampton Limited and the Building And Allied Trades Union formalise the criteria for laying off and recalling bricklayers. The union sought selection based on length of service, two weeks' notice and a commitment to re-employ workers when work became available. The Court recommended formalising the existing criteria and priorities, advising the union representative of proposed lay-offs and raising particular problems with management. It considered the company's commitment to give at least one week's notice reasonable. The recommendation was dated 11 June 2001.
