In 2001, the Labour Court recommended a £1-per-hour basic-pay increase for Kilsaran Concrete Limited staff, retrospective by six weeks from acceptance of the recommendation. The recommendation was dated 5 June 2001. The Court also recommended improved holiday-pay arrangements from 1 July 2001, including for employees taking two weeks' annual leave before then, and said the unions should await a review of sick pay and pensions. It rejected the bonus claim and the request to bring forward current wage-agreement dates, while recommending that the next agreement take effect from 1 March 2003. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union were the unions in the dispute.
