Labour Court recommends relocation payment talks for three transferred caterers

The Labour Court recommended that Eurest Sutcliffe Catering Services Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet to agree a relocation payment for three transferred caterers, in a recommendation dated 15 February 2001. The workers moved from the Blood Transfusion Service Board to St. James’ Hospital. The union sought a payment similar to the £1,700 paid to the Board’s direct employees. The company relied on a transferability clause and said it had no precedent for compensation. The Court accepted that the agreement allowed transfers, but said the case involved unique circumstances and had some merit. It recommended that the company and union agree a value for the relocation; it set no amount.
