Labour Court says Christmas Eve and Good Friday fall within Cantrell & Cochrane leave entitlement

The Labour Court recommended that Cantrell & Cochrane Ireland treat Christmas Eve and Good Friday as part of its 20-day annual leave entitlement, not as additional days. It made the recommendation in a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, dated 19 January 2001. The union said a 1974 company document promised the two days in addition to annual leave and argued that their absorption into the entitlement had happened without consultation. The company said its 1988 policy included both days within the 20 days. The Court found that policy clear and recommended that the union accept that the two days had been subsumed into the entitlement. Applicable service days remained additional.
