The Labour Court found that a bilingual secretary and shorthand typist at the Irish Embassy in Paris could not bring her grievance before it because she was excluded from the statutory definition of a worker. The recommendation was dated 29 January 2001. Her grievance concerned an alleged disparity in status and salary compared with established Department officers. The Court strongly recommended that a mechanism be put in place to address the grievance, noting that about 300 State employees were in a similar position.
