In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Aer Rianta (Shannon) not concede SIPTU (Shannon)'s claim to restore a pay differential for airport police and fire service staff. The union sought to maintain an 8% gap between staff and supervisors after a former grade was eliminated. The Court said the claimant grade's rates were set company-wide and that the remuneration review underway was the appropriate place to address the issue. Its recommendation was signed on 8 January 2001.
