In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Trinity College Dublin address staff parking problems through its Car Parking Working Group or discussions with the Group of Unions. The recommendation was signed on 27 October 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought free external parking spaces for about a year while construction restricted campus parking, on behalf of about 500 staff. The college said staff had no guaranteed right to campus parking and described measures it had taken to manage the shortage. The Court recommended discussions to explore ways to ease staff problems while taking the college’s constraints into account.
