The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a union claim for a £360 Exceptional Millennium Bonus for Central Fisheries Board field staff. Its recommendation was dated 19 October 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the 188 field staff had to remain available throughout the 48-hour period around the turn of 2000. The Board said it designated staff according to operational needs and paid those selected pro rata. The Court said the earlier bonus recommendation covered workers whose attendance or availability was unavoidable, and that employers could designate the number required. It found the claimants had been treated no differently from workers in similar circumstances elsewhere in the Public Service.
