In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that workers at Waterford Crystal Limited's Salzle Acid Section accept the established shift-work pattern, which did not include an extra 15-minute break. The recommendation was signed on 5 October 2000. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union said workers who moved from day work to shifts retained an optional afternoon break agreed in 1990. The Court found that the supplementary memorandum applied specifically to day workers. It said a 1992 agreement validated two full-stop canteen breaks for shift workers.
