In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Cork Master Printers Association (Cmpa) concede Graphical Paper & Media Union (Gpmu)’s claim for a 50% spouses’ pension for members at six Cork companies. The recommendation was dated 28 September 2000 and concerned about 65 union members. The union had sought phased parity in employer pension contributions with the Irish Master Printers Association. The association said improving its scheme would be extremely costly. The Court was not satisfied that the pension was substantially out of line with comparable employments, so the broader contribution claim was precluded by the PPF Agreement. It also recommended that the parties examine possible improvements to the death-in-service benefit at their next actuarial review.
