In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Blackthorn Shoes concede Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for ten general operatives to receive one week’s pay per year of service in addition to statutory redundancy terms. The workers had between 10 and 44 years’ service. The Court recommended that statutory redundancy be implemented immediately, with a reasonable timeframe agreed for the additional amounts. The recommendation was signed on 22 September 2000.
