In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that University College Dublin concede the Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union’s claim for a higher dirty-money allowance for six plumbers unless the parties agreed to end the existing practice. The recommendation was dated 19 September 2000. The claim sought an increase from £2.50 to £5.00 per day, backdated to May 1998. The Court said relevant aspects of the MEBSCA Agreement had been applied to the employees over the years. The College argued that a different pay agreement applied.
