In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Swigmore Inns (Trading As Doheny & Nesbitt) pay £750 to a barperson it found had been unfairly dismissed, and provide him with a suitable reference. The recommendation was dated 11 September 2000. The worker said he had received no written warning and no complaints about his performance until two weeks before his dismissal. The employer said it had given verbal warnings and that he had not met the required standard. The Court found the employer had failed to follow its disciplinary procedure, which required written as well as verbal warnings. It said the recommendation did not accept the truth of serious allegations made against the company.
