The Labour Court recommended that Glanbia Limited, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union discuss any pay anomaly in centralised negotiations. The recommendation was signed on 10 August 2000. The unions sought to extend a £25 weekly bonus paid to some Snowcream workers in Waterford to about 200 workers at Glanbia’s Ballytore and Drogheda plants. The Court said the other plants had received higher lump-sum payments and the Waterford bonus applied only to employees who started before that plant’s agreement. It considered extending the bonus to all workers at the other plants unjustified and unsustainable given the company’s finances.
