In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Enterprise Ireland Limited clarify the future and promotion criteria for Senior Principal Scientific Officer posts, but did not recommend upgrading them to Grade 1. It said individual post holders could bring separate upgrading claims. The Manufacturing, Science, Finance union also sought a higher Senior Scientific Officer pay scale. The Court did not recommend conceding that claim, noting that negotiations with the other union group might have avoided the dispute. Its recommendation was signed on 3 August 2000.
