The Labour Court recommended that the Eastern Regional Health Authority, the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume discussions on regrading eight ambulance controllers, in a recommendation dated 18 July 2000. The unions sought clerical/administrative Grade IV status for the controllers at the Townsend Street control centre. The Court found that discussions had reached agreement in principle on new senior posts and that staff had a legitimate expectation that eight would be created, but the number had not been settled. It recommended talks to restore the original intention of addressing the claim on the basis of the restructured Dublin centre.
