The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a union claim to raise pay for 14 Glanbia maintenance craftsmen in Virginia to the level of counterparts at Ballyragget. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 2000. The Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union said Ballyragget craftsmen were paid £2.81 an hour more and sought retrospection from the date of the merger. Glanbia said the plants differed in size, complexity, work content and working arrangements. The Court said it was not satisfied that their conditions of employment were the same, taking account of the operations’ size, complexity and working arrangements.
