The Labour Court recommended that Scoil Mhuire complete discussions on an improved package for its secretary within four weeks and that the issues be addressed nationally. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the Department of Education and Science National School Secretary pay scale for the worker, who was paid £4.74 an hour for a 20-hour week. Management said the school's resources were limited, and its application for funding for a full-time secretary and caretaker had been refused. The Court noted that similar cases existed in many schools and that Scoil Mhuire's employer had committed to immediate discussions about an improved package.
