The Labour Court recommended pay-scale changes after Iarnrod Eireann moved new recruits to the fourth point of the craft workers’ scale. The recommendation was signed on 30 March 2000. Ictu Iarnrod Eireann Group Of Unions said the change left some existing craft workers on lower rates than new recruits and sought increases across the scale. Iarnrod Eireann said the move was a temporary response to recruitment difficulties and that existing staff suffered no detriment. The Court said the agreed salary scale should not be changed unilaterally. It recommended consolidating the outstanding £10.11 payment for eligible workers, moving certain workers to the fourth pay point from 17 April 1999, and holding negotiations on productivity and the future position of new entrants.
