The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Bus Eireann’s offer to negotiate compensation for employees who lost earnings when the Limerick Garage moved from three-cycle to two-cycle shifts. The recommendation was signed on 29 March 2000. The union sought a time-plus-one-fifth shift premium because the late shift ran until 1am. Bus Eireann said the two-cycle roster qualified for time plus one sixth, the rate used for comparable shifts. The Court found the rate for two-cycle shift working appropriate and recommended negotiations on a compensatory payment for employees who lost earnings.
