In 2000, the Labour Court did not recommend that Construction Industry Federation (Cif) & Contractors concede Ictu Construction Group Of Unions’ claim for a finishing bonus for workers at the Rank Xerox site in Dundalk. The Court said such payments had been made at only a small number of sites and were not provided for in the Registered Employment Agreement for the Construction Industry. The employers said they had tendered competitively and Rank Xerox would not fund an additional payment. The union cited previous bonus payments at other sites and workers’ periods of unemployment between contracts. The Court suggested the parties seek agreed guidelines through the National Joint Industrial Council on when such claims could be processed. Its recommendation was signed on 28 January 2000.
