The Labour Court rejected the Psychiatric Nurses' Association’s claims for compensation over the relocation of North Eastern Health Board’s residential service in Dundalk and staff stress and trauma. It recommended that professional support remain available to affected staff for as long as needed, with no barriers to access, and that the Board seek a psychologist’s advice before reusing the former premises. The Board had moved the service from Mounthamilton House to Point Road, about 2½ miles away. It said it had offered counselling and opposed compensation. The Court found management had handled the situation as well as could be expected, while noting staff had endured difficult experiences and that only two claimants had used counselling. The recommendation was signed on 12 January 2000.
