The Labour Court recommended an independent evaluation of four Senior Building Officer posts at Fás after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought to have them upgraded from grade 8 to grade 7. The Court said the evaluation should compare the posts with others at the same grade and take account of statutory duty changes since 1990. The union argued that the posts’ responsibilities had grown and their grading was out of line with comparable public-service roles. Fás said its grades were tied to Civil Service grades and that it could not create posts without departmental approval. The recommendation was signed on 10 January 2000.
