In 1999, the Labour Court saw no basis to change seniority positions challenged by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union at Van Den Bergh Foods. The dispute involved two groups of part-time workers; one group also sought restoration of an equal-pay rate and compensation. The Court found the seniority arrangements had been agreed in 1988 and 1995 and remained valid. It noted that a separate equal-pay case was before the Equality Commission. The recommendation was dated 8 December 1999.
