Labour Court recommends Mater Private Hospital pay two-thirds of staff uniform costs

The Labour Court recommended that Mater Private Hospital pay two-thirds of uniform costs for about 60 clerical and administrative staff required to wear uniforms. Employees would pay the remaining third. The recommendation was dated 29 November 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought free uniforms, saying other non-medical hospital staff received them without charge. Management said uniform costs were customarily shared equally and cited the expense of providing replacements. The Court amended the company's offer to pay 60% of the cost.
