Labour Court recommends talks on assistant registrars’ pay parity

In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that the National Council For Educational Awards enter discussions with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and negotiate a settlement on pay for eight assistant registrars. The Court found that parity with senior lecturer grades had been claimed and conceded, although the agreement did not definitively use the term. The union said a 1997 agreement established pay parity with senior lecturer grades in the Institutes of Technology. The Council said the agreement set out a principle whose application depended on circumstances and argued that the claim should be reconsidered in light of new structures. The recommendation was signed on 30 November 1999.
