In 1999, the Labour Court recommended accepting Tesco Ireland Limited's proposed two-tier pay structure in its dispute with Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (Portlaoise) and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (Longford). The structure would replace 42 pay rates, with a review recommended for October 2001. The Court also recommended adjusting wage-round dates for six stores, retaining the 39-hour week and the 1997 unsocial-hours agreement, accepting the company's service-related sick-pay offer, and reviewing pensions jointly with an independent expert. It recommended overtime for work beyond normal hours at shop closing, rounded up to the nearest 15 minutes. The Court investigated the dispute on 12 November and signed its recommendation on 19 November 1999.
