In 1999, the Labour Court recommended a £200 goodwill gesture for 25 Iarnrod Eireann job sharers, in full and final settlement of a dispute over a productivity payment. The recommendation was signed on 10 November 1999. The job sharers had received £800 each, half the £1,600 payment made to full-time staff. The Court upheld proportionality in principle but recommended the additional payment because of ambiguity and misunderstanding about the job sharers' entitlement. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Transport Salaried Staffs' Association represented the workers. The Company said job sharers were paid proportionally under their half-time arrangement and established practice.
