The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept redeployment for three workers from Howmedica International’s Shannon distribution centre to its Limerick plant, on the terms offered by the company. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 1999. The dispute followed the decision to contract out warehousing and distribution at Shannon. The Court accepted that a March 1999 letter had conveyed an undertaking to maintain the facility, but found that workforce reductions made it impractical to continue the operation with the remaining direct employees.
