The Labour Court did not recommend concession of Mandate’s claim to raise pay for 88 Gallery Restaurant workers at Roches Stores in Cork. The recommendation was signed on 28 September 1999. The workers were paid £5.25 an hour, compared with £6.20 for sales assistants. The Court said sales and restaurant staff were covered by separate negotiating arrangements, which also applied in other retail establishments with in-store restaurants. It suggested the parties discuss giving restaurant staff favourable consideration for suitable sales vacancies and preserving their service for all purposes if they transferred.
