Labour Court recommends staffing talks at Irish Distillers’ Dublin site

The Labour Court recommended that Irish Distillers Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept conciliation proposals on staffing at the Fox and Geese site in Dublin, while holding further discussions about permanent jobs. The recommendation was dated 16 September 1999. The dispute involved about 45 workers and covered staffing in the bottling hall and warehouse, as well as a security post left vacant after a retirement. The union sought to retain a warehouse position, restore bottling hall headcount and oppose contracting out the security post. The Court considered the conciliation proposals reasonable, acknowledged the union’s concerns about permanent jobs and recommended further discussions on that issue before the proposals were accepted.
