Labour Court recommends technician scale for Davis College craft assistant

The Labour Court recommended that Davis College concede the technician pay scale to a craft assistant, subject to agreement on future cost savings within the college. The recommendation was dated 14 September 1999. Manufacturing, Science, Finance sought parity of pay and conditions with craft assistants in institutes of technology. The Court said the worker’s skills, experience and qualifications supported the technician scale, and that the work went beyond the normal duties of craft assistants in VEC schools. The recommendation made the concession conditional on the parties agreeing to future cost savings.
