The Labour Court recommended further conciliation talks between Aer Lingus and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on changes to early-start shifts at Dublin Airport. It set an eight-week deadline for agreement and said unresolved issues could return to the Court. The recommendation was dated 13 September 1999. Aer Lingus sought more flexibility for 05.00 starts. The union sought conditions including additional pay, free transport and a roster review. The Court said the airline needed greater flexibility to respond to customer needs, but noted that it had agreed to the existing restrictions in 1993. It recommended that both sides modify their positions in negotiations.
