The Labour Court recommended that Tyna Knitwear pay 20 workers outstanding retrospective pay when the company’s financial performance allowed. The company estimated the amount at £12,000. The recommendation was dated 14 September 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought three unpaid pay phases dating from 1996 and 1997, through 12 January 1998. Tyna Knitwear accepted liability but said it could not pay at the time and remained in a serious loss-making position. The Court recommended reviewing payment within 12 months; in the meantime, the parties could try to agree a figure to buy out the outstanding amount.
