The Labour Court recommended renewed negotiations between Trinity College Dublin and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over proposed pay and work changes for 16 general operatives in the Buildings Office. The recommendation was dated 21 July 1999. The college’s proposal included a weekly wage increase, travel-time payments for annual leave and some public holidays, a further pay increase subject to monitoring, and changes to the work undertaken by general operatives. The union said it would consider the package if the “Main Trades Makes Good” proposal was negotiated separately. The Court said the flexibilities sought in return for the increase should align with those agreed for general operatives in health boards and local authorities. It recommended that the parties resume negotiations, consider those comparable agreements and discuss any additional college-specific concessions in the context of a special allowance.
