In 1999, the Labour Court recommended statutory redundancy entitlements plus 60% for workers affected by the planned closure of T.J.T. Manufacturing Limited’s Kiltimagh plant, subject to the sale of the company’s fixed assets. It said the company should report the sale proceeds and that it might make a further recommendation if there was a surplus. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought three weeks’ pay per year of service on top of statutory entitlements. The company said it could pay only statutory entitlements given its financial position. The Court also recommended full payment of other statutory sums due at closure. Its recommendation was signed on 2 July 1999.
