The Labour Court recommended a rate of £21 per hour, or time off in lieu, for Teagasc instructors working beyond an average 35-hour week on Certificate in Farming evening classes. It also recommended that participation be voluntary. The recommendation was dated 31 May 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Teagasc had reached agreement on most arrangements but remained divided over overtime rates and whether instructors should have to take part. Volunteers were to commit for the full course, with the parties to discuss what to do if there were too few volunteers.
