In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Nestle Ireland Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union process a pay differential claim for fork-lift drivers through job evaluation. The recommendation was signed on 28 May 1999. The union sought a differential for six fork-lift drivers and two or three relief drivers at the company’s Tallaght plant. It said the work required specialised training and greater responsibility. The company pointed to its existing job evaluation process and said the criteria were due for review. The Court noted the company’s assurance that the evaluation could be completed within two months. It recommended that any differential found justified be implemented from a current date.
