In 1999, the Labour Court recommended against upgrading Dublin City University's senior groundsman to the grounds-fore-person grade at the University of Limerick. Its recommendation was signed on 10 March. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the worker's duties and responsibilities were similar to or greater than those of the University of Limerick role. DCU said the jobs differed in campus size, supervisory duties and grading. The Court found the grounds-fore-person role was a higher grade and that the duties described did not warrant the upgrade. It recommended that the parties discuss any future changes to the worker's duties and arrange an independent evaluation if they could not agree.
