The Labour Court recommended revised severance and pension terms for employees affected by the sale of Burmah Castrol (Ireland) Limited's fuels business. The package included severance ceilings of 130 weeks for those under 50 and 104 weeks for those over 50, a minimum payment of nine months' pay and two added years of pension credits for those leaving under the plan. The recommendation was dated 13 April 1999. The Court also recommended retaining five employees aged 47 until their 48th birthdays, continuing Plan B VHI cover to the end of 1999 and capping indexation at CPI or 3%, whichever was lower. It recommended increasing the company's co-operation payment from £1,600 to £2,000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought enhanced terms, while the company offered terms based on earlier agreements.
