In 1999, the Labour Court recommended an uncapped redundancy package for workers affected by Raleigh Ireland Ltd's planned closure of its warehousing and distribution functions, which would result in the loss of 12 jobs. The recommendation was dated 19 March 1999. The company proposed three weeks' basic pay per completed year of service, capped at 18 months' pay, plus statutory entitlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought five weeks per year plus statutory entitlements. The Court recommended three weeks' pay per year of service, plus statutory entitlement, with no cap, calculated using average earnings over the 13 weeks before redundancy and service as used in the Redundancy Acts, not completed years. It also recommended providing pension, tax and PRSI details and help finding alternative work.
