The Labour Court recommended a trial gain-sharing scheme at Kendall Company Limited, which employed 650 workers at its Tullamore plant, alongside a £100 net payment to each employee and a 2% pay increase from 1 April 1999. The recommendation was dated 19 March 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought higher basic pay and an improved gain-sharing offer. The Court recommended a review of the scheme in October 1999 and called for a joint steering committee to monitor its progress. The company had said the rejected scheme was linked to efficiency and investment concerns.
