The Labour Court recommended that Irish Distillers Limited’s revised sick-pay scheme be accepted alongside electronic credit transfer for employees paid in cash. The recommendation, dated 1 March 1999, also proposed a once-off £200 payment to each affected employee when the new arrangements were introduced. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union supported the revised sick-pay proposal but opposed making it conditional on replacing cash payments. The Court said the issues should not be separated because the company had made its proposal on the basis of a reciprocal agreement to introduce cashless pay.
