The Labour Court recommended staged increases to local and country lunch allowances at Spring Grove Services (Ireland) Limited after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 25 February 1998. The Court said the union's comparison-based claim was not well founded because the 1996 agreement was not based on rates in other employment. It recommended increasing the local lunch allowance to £2.15 from 8 June 1998 and £2.40 by the end of Partnership 2000. Country lunch rates were recommended to rise in phases from £3.90 to £5.00 by the end of Partnership 2000. No immediate increase was recommended to the £35 overnight rate, with future adjustments to follow the consumer price index.
