The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ispat not concede a claim by four electrical team leaders for a 4% Melt Shop conditions payment. The recommendation was dated 2 March 1999. The Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union said the team leaders worked in the Melt Shop under the same difficult conditions as other workers who received the payment. Irish Ispat argued that the team leaders’ premium, increased to 20% above the base rate, already accounted for those conditions. The Court agreed that the increased differential took the extreme working conditions into account.
