In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Waterford Stanley pay an electrician the 10% chargehand differential when he covered for the electrical chargehand or was the sole electrician on site during the late shift. The dispute was brought by the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union. The union said the worker had the same responsibilities as the two chargehands and had worked as a shift chargehand since 1995. The company said he had no additional chargehand duties, but its offer of payment for cover and sole late-shift work was considered reasonable by the Court.
