The Labour Court recommended that Drogheda Corporation and the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union meet to agree a remedy for a fire-fighter/mechanic who missed out on increments secured for colleagues under a 1992 agreement. Any agreement should be backdated to February 1995, with discussions completed within four weeks of the recommendation dated 12 February 1999. The union said the worker was the only employee left out of the 1992 agreement and should not be disadvantaged. The Corporation said he had no prior firefighting or local-authority experience, had accepted the starting point of the pay scale in his contract and had received extra-duty and trade-certificate allowances. The Court said the worker was the only employee detrimentally affected by the agreement. It said it would make a specific recommendation if the parties could not agree.
