Labour Court recommends Rye Valley Foods workforce accept proposals with tandem-rate change

The Labour Court recommended that Rye Valley Foods employees accept proposals agreed at the Labour Relations Commission, changing the qualifying date for the tandem rate to December 1997. The recommendation was signed on 3 February 1999. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union concerned improvements to wages, conditions and grading. The union said the Grade I basic wage was too low compared with rates elsewhere in the food sector; the company said its pay rates were in line with the sector and it could not afford further labour costs.
