In 1999, the Labour Court recommended against conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claims against Clery And Company (1941) PLC for a productivity payment and pension contributions. The recommendation was dated 4 February 1999. The dispute concerned a proposed £18.48 weekly productivity payment for staff employed before 1 September 1996 and a 5% pension contribution for later hires. The union opposed the two-tier terms. The Court said the disputed rates and conditions were in line with those agreed at comparable outlets in the distributive trade. About 60 workers were affected by the payment issue and 10 by the pension issue.
